The São Paulo Research Support Foundation (FAPESP) launched a new publication on the Research, Innovation and Diffusion Centers Program (CEPID/RIDC).
The publication "Cutting Edge Research: Long-term funding (10+years) for multi-institutional research centers of excellence, in all areas of knowledge", in English, highlights Genoma USP and other Centers supported by FAPESP.
The publication describes some of the main research projects conducted at Genoma USP, as well as a list of associated institutions and links to reports on results.
The CEPID/RIDC program was launched by FAPESP in 2000, with the aim of supporting long-term research centers of excellence in the State of São Paulo, multi-institutional and in any area of knowledge. The program mission is to develop research at the frontier of knowledge, fundamental or applied, with relevant commercial and social impact, contribute to innovation through technology transfer, and offer educational and knowledge dissemination activities to elementary school teachers and students. and medium, as well as for the general public.
Chosen through a call for proposals and selected by Brazilian and foreign experts and by an international committee, the CEPIDs have funding for a period of up to 11 years, which allows them to be bold in their research objectives, consolidate teams of excellence, give greater scale to scientific and technological research and fulfill the requirements of its mission
In addition to resources from FAPESP, the Centers also have the support of the institutions to which they are linked – in the form of financing for professors, technicians, support staff and infrastructure –, as well as additional funds contributed by industries and other research funding agencies that , together, they form one of the largest investments in research in the country.
The first call for proposals for the CEPID/RIDC Program was launched in 2000 and selected 11 centers, supported until 2013. In 2011, a new call was launched and 17 CEPIDs were selected, among 90 proposals presented.
